Zion Honors a Warrior's Decision.

Attention: Warriors of Zion.

I know many of you have been concerned about how we would respect Neurophyte's wishes regarding her recent mission in the Real. I am passing on what information I have as I have received it.

Neurophyte was pronounced dead in the Medical Construct of the Zion Mainframe a few minutes ago. Her final brain-wave functions dropped to zero as the last of the “killcode” she had found in the Real was extracted for analysis and distribution to Zion Military forces.

Neurophyte, a warrior of Zion and a brave soldier, was on a solo mission in the Real to collect information about power fluctuations that had been detected there in the past months.

During a daring rescue attempt in both the Real and the Matrix, Zion operatives secured Neurophyte only to discover that the killcode implantation had incapacitated her. Cerebral ischemia coupled with highly anomalous EEGs made her continued survival uncertain.

The journey via hovercraft back to Zion was a difficult one for us all. Neurophyte had determined that the killcode she had found in the Real was more important than her survival. Since the killcode was implanted in her brain by unknown means, it was apparent that the mechanism of removal of the killcode was going to be the prime determinant in the survival of our operative.

Neurophyte insisted on no medical treatment on the return trip to Zion. She demanded the killcode be removed immediately from her mind, knowing full well that the result would be an aggravation of her condition and probable death.

It was the intervention of a number of other warriors of Zion that affirmed her decision. As she read through emails and data-drops from Zion and the hovercrafts and barges in the Broadcast lanes, she was convinced that her sacrifice was the right one. We are all soldiers of Zion, and a soldier is always prepared to face death.

Neurophyte, in a final act of bravery, elected to allow her neural pathways to be chain-mapped during the killcode extraction process, a painful and lengthy process that nevertheless will allow Zion to better understand her changed genetic code.

The killcode is now undergoing investigation and replication. Its efficacy will likely be reduced by the distribution process, but the benefit that it provides will be noticeable and, when used strategically, will be an effective weapon in Zion's arsenal.

The Crew of the Novalis II are understandably shaken by this latest turn of events, and are now on leave to work through their loss. Zion Command requests that you respect their privacy in this personal time of reflection.
