Gameplay FAQs: Non Player Characters FAQ

The Matrix Online is full of colorful characters who work for various organizations, control particular neighborhoods, buy and sell resources, and even in some cases offer special missions outside of the three organizations.

Who are neighborhood contacts?

Neighborhood contacts are NPC’s who use redpills to do their work for them. As a player you can approach them and see if they have any missions for you. These missions are generally independent of the major organizations, but if a neighborhood contacts asks you to work against an organization it could change your reputation with them.

Who are collectors?

Collectors are generally NPC’s that have a bone to pick with one of the gangs. Though they are unable to directly confront the gang in question, they offer rewards for the items commonly carried by the gang. Players can go kill the gang members and trade in these items for a reward from the collector.

What kind of items do vendors sell?

There are vendors which sell clothing, items and equipment, ability codes, and other code fragments.

Will I see movie characters as in-game NPC’s?

There will be times when characters from the movies make in-game appearances in The Matrix Online. These moments will be limited, and will be granted to players by a combination of their contribution to their particular organization as well as simple luck.

Who are the gangs?

Gangs like the Blackwoods are groups of exiles who have banded together for strength and protection. Some of them in the Slums are relatively weak and can be attacked for information and code. Other gangs are very powerful and even high level players need to be cautious around them.

Are there vampires and werewolves in the Matrix?

Though there are the occasional instances of older programs within the Matrix, most instances are inside the constructs maintained by the Archivists.
