Beta Players Duel the QA Team at Debir Court!
On January 7th, 2005, Monolith Productions hosted a dueling event in The Matrix Online starring our friends from the Quality Assurance Team. Yin, Halle, Halfinch and Tester001 took a break from their day-to-day duties of feature testing and bug reproduction to accept duel challenges from our beta players. Over 70 duels were fought at Debir Court, with top marks going to Monolith for the most wins.
Radio Free Zion (RFZ) was on hand to witness the event and Sundog, the founder of RFZ, had this to say: “One of the most impressive parts of watching this community grow and flourish around The Matrix Online is the high degree of interactivity between the players and the development team. Never before have I seen such a two-way street for communicating the desires and dreams of the player community directly to the engineers that are building the game, much less for the players to be given the opportunity to test (and play) right alongside the developers in fun and entertaining ways.”
QA representative Halfinch particularly enjoyed the coverage of the event provided by RFZ, saying modestly, “I loved the running commentary, particularly the bits about us being unstoppable and crushing all comers.” Radio Free Zion punctuated the duel event with a live on-air interview with the QA Team’s very own Tester001.
QA Team member Halle remarked on the level of enthusiasm generated by the participating players, and appreciated their sportsmanship. “Players were very excited about the event, and in my case, humble when they were able to defeat me.”
When asked if they considered events like this to be valuable, Yin summed it up for everyone on the QA Team: “Yes! Seeing how players interact with each other and identifying any issues taking place first hand is invaluable. Anytime that we can test systems and turn it into something fun for players to participate in, all the better.”
SolisFate and fellow members of the Sacred Order Faction, Bomberman, Zarani and Sulph were spectators at the dueling event. “The challenge presented to the beta testers was great.” SolisFate said. “It was good to see The Matrix Online representatives hold their own in this duel event.”
Meduna, member of the Mainframe Faction and participant in the duel event, had this to say: “The most memorable part of the duel had to be when I lost! I always enjoy participating in The Matrix Online community events.” She said. “Whether they are designed by Monolith themselves or by the players, you never know what wacky event they will come up with next.”
The Matrix Online Community Team couldn’t agree more- and as for our recent duel event, we would like to extend our thanks to all our Beta Testers for their participation, and kudos to The Matrix Online QA Team for taking time out of their day to help us pull this event together. Keep your eyes on the headlines friends, there’s more fun to come!
