The Hacker discipline is the first step towards understanding how everything and everyone is interconnected in the Matrix. Hackers are able to use these connections to send harmful viruses to corrupt the code of enemies, patch up the code of allies using Restore Health 1.0, and can make it harder for enemies to engage them in close combat with Gaussian Blur 1.0. Hackers also possess the ability to break into computers in the Matrix, ferreting out secrets that some would prefer to keep hidden.
“Adaptation...improvisation. But your weakness is not your technique.” – Morpheus, The Matrix
Main Abilities:
Strengths:
- Access to both healing and damaging abilities.
- Able to hack computers to unlock doors, find resources and access maps.
- Great support character for grouping.
Weaknesses:
- May find soloing at low levels difficult due to the need to stay out of
Interlock:
- Not as effective in combat as an Operative, but more so than a Coder.
Play Styles:
Solo play:
While soloing, remember that your Restore Health 1.0 ability can only be used outside of Interlock. Use your Gaussian Blur ability to help you avoid being pulled into Interlock and take your enemies down from a distance using a combination ranged weapon fire and Logic Blast 1.0.
Group play:
All groups should have a Hacker. With their ability to patch up team-mates, damage enemies with devastating viruses and to access more detailed mission maps they can play a key role in any group's success.
Main Abilities:
|
Execute Program (Awakened 1) This ability represents how well you can infect your enemies with hostile viruses. If you plan on using viral attacks, then this ability should be raised whenever possible. |
|
Logic Blast 1.0 (Execute Program 1) This is the Hacker's primary offensive ability. It can be used both from a distance and in Interlock, making it useful in any hostile situation |
|
Restore Health 1.0 (Execute Program 1) The importance of being able to patch up yourself and teammates while on a mission cannot be overstated. This ability will keep you in the fight, sometimes just long enough to win against the worst odds |
|
Gaussian Blur (Restore Health 1.0) A Hacker operates best when outside of interlock, where they can bring both their offensive and healing abilities to bear on a fight. Gaussian Blur will help keep the Hacker out of Interlock by increasing the Hackers Evade Combat Ability, found in the Awakened Discipline. |
|
Download Mission Map (Logic Blast 1.0) With this ability loaded you'll have an increased chance of getting additional information on your maps whenever you take a mission. This also applies to your team mates, so you'll all see the same information on your separate maps. |
|
Hacker (Restore Health 1.0; Logic Blast 1.0; Execute Program 2) You'll be able to hack computers inside the Matrix, gaining access to files which may include resources like code and code fragments, or information such as security access codes and email messages. |
Looking Forward:
The Hacker discipline branches out into two very different paths. The first path is the Virologist, who focuses on offensive viral attacks, and the second is the Patcher, who focuses on restoring the health and boosting the effectiveness of a team. The Virologist discipline grants new and varied viruses that do increased damage or slow enemies down. The Patcher will gain access to more potent Health-restoring abilities, including an ability that lets them restore Health points to their whole team.
Complementary Disciplines:
Solo:
The Hacker's strength lies in staying out of Interlock, so loading out with nearly any of the Coder simulacra-creating abilities will give the Hacker access to a ready and willing ally who will act as a great buffer between Hackers and their opponents.
Another option is for the Hacker to also load out with any of the Operatives' ranged combat disciplines, such as Gunman, Rifleman or Duelist; this will increase the Hacker's ability to decimate enemies from a distance with a combination of viral and ranged weapon attacks.
Grouping:
The Hacker is most effective when grouped with either a simulacra-using Coder or a melee-focused Operative. Both can help keep enemies occupied while a Hacker stays back out of Interlock where their healing and viral abilities can be put to best use.
Minimum Level: 1
Hints and Tips:
Either buy or find a Program Launcher tool. The boost to Viral Transmission while this item is equipped will let you infect enemies with hostile viruses much more easily. Keep you eyes open for more technologically advanced Program Launchers, which can even further boost your ability to sling viruses.
Invest in a good ranged weapon. Logic Blast 1.0 has a short cool-down time after you trigger it, so to ensure you take enemies out before they get too close, use your gun to fill the space with bullets.
