On December 2nd, The Matrix Online Community
team introduced the game’s first unique Event, and it turned out to
be a roaring good time for all involved. Official Game Masters, who normally
respond to questions and cries for help from players in-game throughout the
day, challenged our Beta Testers to a series of duels throughout Mega City.
Hour after hour challenges were issued and player after player lined up to
meet them until, at the end of the day, over 200 duels were fought.
Everyone on The Matrix Online team
was pleased with the turnout. They were equally impressed with the great
attitudes and abilities of our beta testers, who handled themselves in a
community-friendly manner and used the event to show off some of their hard-earned
game skills! The event kicked off with Game Masters Mastema and Toqeph going
toe-to-toe with players at the infamous Debir Court. Shortly after, another
hour of frenetic dueling ensued with players battling it out against GM Glitch
and GM Shift in the Uriah Industrial Area. For the next hour, GM Eris and
GM Lead Thoth took on all comers on a Kedemoth rooftop. GM Lead Raccoon and Matrix
Online Associate Producer Oni
were the next up, fighting an intense run of duels at the Mjolnir Monument,
sometimes even taking to the streets when the duels would spill into oncoming
traffic.
A major highlight of the day came while watching the throng of people waiting
at Debir Court, each one looking to duke it out with Matrix Online Community
Lead, Walrus. The challengers lined the courtyard end to end, offering cheers
for both sides and remarking on the battle prowess of the combatants. At one
point, Walrus and a challenger dueled with such ferocity and skill that they
traveled the entire length of Debir Court, pushing past the assembled onlookers,
ending finally with a breathtaking victory for Walrus.
The next hour highlighted the
sportsmanship of GM Zodiac, flying solo for an hour’s worth of duels at Archer Plaza. GM Kodros then paired up with
GM Aquarius for a round of duels in the Uriah Industrial Area. And finally,
GM Relic and GM Andvari closed the day’s official challenges with a round
of duels at the Center Park Commons.
At the end of the day, our stalwart duelists hit the after-event party at
Club Sphinx, which was hosted by Radio Free Zion and attended by just
about anybody who was able to fit through the door. The Furious Angels, one
of the community’s most active factions, were on hand to participate
in a duel of a different sort. Decked out head-to-toe in stylish white gear,
they didn’t miss a single beat when faced with an equal number of black
clad agents in the first ever Matrix Online Battle Dance. It was most
certainly a sight to behold!
The Matrix Online Community
team extends a hearty thanks to all our Beta Testers for their participation
and enthusiasm, and kudos to the Game Masters for their assistance in making
the “GM Fight Night” an
incredible first event. With this rousing success, we’re sure to see
more events taking place in the future. Keep an eye on our headlines for updates,
and we’ll see you in the Matrix!
